【摘要】:Corrosionassociatedwithinsulationisanimportantconcernforinsulationmanufacturers,specificationwriters,designers,contractors,usersandoperatorsoftheequipment.Somematerialspecificationscontaintestmethods(orreferencetestmethodscontainedinothermaterialspecifications),foruseinevaluatingtheinsulationwithregardtothecorrosionofsteel,copper,andaluminum.Insomecasesthesetestsarenotapplicableoreffectiveandhavenotbeenevaluatedforprecisionandbias.Aproperlyselected,installed,andmaintainedinsulationsystemwillreducethecorrosionthatoftenoccursonanun-insulatedstructure.However,whentheprotectiveweather-resistantcoveringofaninsulationsystemfails,theconditionsfortheaqueousenvironmentnecessaryforcorrosionunderinsulation(CUI)oftendevelop.Itispossibletheinsulationcontains,collects,orconcentratescorrosiveagents,oracombinationthereof,oftenfoundinindustrialandcoastalenvironments.Ifwaterisnotpresent,theseelectrolytescannotmigratetothemetalsurface.Theelectrochemicalreactionresultingintheaqueouscorrosionofmetalsurfacescannottakeplaceintheabsenceofwaterandelectrolytes.Additionalenvironmentalfactorscontributingtoincreasedcorrosionratesareoxygen,andelevated-temperature(nearboilingpoint).Chloridesandothercorrosiveionsarecommontomanyenvironments.Theprimarycorrosionpreventativeistoprotectinsulationandmetalfromcontaminationandmoisture.Insulationcovers,jackets,andmetalcoatingofvariouskindsareoftenusedtopreventwaterinfiltrationandcontactwiththemetal.Thisprocedurecanbeusedtoevaluatealltypesofthermalinsulationandfireproofingmaterials(industrial,commercial,residential,cryogenic,fire-resistive,insulatingcement)manufacturedusinginorganicororganicmaterials.Thisprocedurecanbeusedwithallmetaltypesforwhichacouponcanbepreparedsuchasmildsteel,stainlesssteel,copper,oraluminum.Thisprocedurecanalsobeapplicabletoinsulationaccessoriesincludingjacketing,covers,adhesives,cements,andbindersassociatedwithinsulationandinsulationproducts.Heattreatmentoftheinsulation(asrecommendedbythemanufactureruptothemaximumpotentialexposuretemperature)canbeusedtosimulatepossibleconditionsofuse.Adhesivescanbetestedbyfirstdryingfollowedbywaterextractionorbyapplyingaknownquantityofthetestadhesivetoatestpieceofinsulationandthenextracting.Insulatingcementscanbetestedbycastingaslab,drying,andextractingorbyusingtheuncuredinsulatingcementpowderforextraction.Referencetestspreparedwithvariousconcentrationsofsolutionsthatareconducivetothecorrosionofthetestedmetalserveascomparativestandards.Solutionscontainingchloride,sodiumhydroxide,variousacids(sulfuric,hydrochloric,nitric,andcitricacid),aswellasx201C;blankx201D;testsusingonlyde-ionizedwaterandtapwaterareused.Researchcanbedoneoninsulationthathasbeenspeciallyformulatedtoinhibitcorrosioninthepresenceofcorrosiveionsthroughmodificationsinbasiccompositionorincorporationofcertainchemicaladditives.Corrosiveionscanalsobeaddedtotheinsulationextractionsolutionstodeterminetheeffectivenessofanyinhibitorspresent.Protectivesurfacetreatmentsandcoatingsofdifferenttypesandthicknesscanbeappliedtothemetalcouponsandcomparedusingvariouscorrosiveliquids.Severalsetsoftestsarerecommendedbecauseofthenumberoffactorsthataffectcorrosion.Anaverageofthetestsandthestandarddeviationbetweenthetestresultsareusedonthedata.Muchofthecorrosionliteraturerecommendsaminimumofthreespecimensforevery........
